Slamannan Wesleyan Methodists
In 1872 the first service of the Methodist Church in Slamannan was held in a schoolroom at Binniehill. Two years later a building was erected in New Street. Four foundation stones engraved ”23rd March, 1874″ lie at the corners of the building, each laid by a different person. Behind one of these stones a ‘time capsule’ was incorporated. The church lies east/west with its south wall along the street containing a porch at its west end. It cost c£800.
Missions were run to the surrounding mining villages and the church thrived. In 1893 and extension was made to the vestry, and the church was renovated and painted. It re-opened in October 1899. With the decline in coal mining in the area as most of the congregation moved away from the Slamannan plateau and so in 1917 the building was sold to the Church of Christ for a mere £100 and was formerly re-opened on 16th July.
It is now a private house.
