Blackbraes Church

TIMELINE

1860: Mission begun at Whyteside Rig-muir.

1865-67: Contributions from Mrs Russell, Blackbraes, and land from Duchess Hamilton meant that a church was built.   Plan prepared by James Smith, Polmont Bank.

1890: Disjoined from Muiravonside and erected a parish quad sacra by decreet of the Court of Teinds 14th July 1890.

1957: Link with Shieldhill terminated.

1963:  November  1st,  United  under  one  charge  with  Shieldhill  to  become “Blackbraes & Shieldhill Parish Church”.

1983: Council told the church to remove the belfry, which had become dangerous.

1988: Building demolished at short notice for safety, land sold in 1997.

1870: Taken from Polmont Parish Church.
