Allandale

The small village of Allandale, now a Conservation Area, was constructed by the Stein family between 1904 and 1925 to house the labour force employed at their adjacent brickworks.  Towards the end of that period a recreation ground was established to the west of the housing to encourage extramural events and to foster a sense of community.  This involved a wide range of activities, but by 1970 it was only used by the football team, Stein Thistle FC, and in 1987 the ground was formally transferred to the club’s ownership.
