In July 1932 land beside the recently constructed Broomhill Crescent was purchased by Stirling County Council for £100 to be made into High Bonnybridge Public Park. The park was officially opened on 5 August 1933 by Colonel Allan Stein. The name of Broomhill Crescent was subsequently changed to Park Street. There is some confusion over the location of this park but it may have been that area between Park Street and the railway through which the Antonine Wall runs. An entrance to this field was left open but the park was never developed.

Instead the County Council compulsory purchased the large field to the east in August 1951. The 5.6 acre field belonged to James Dougall & Sons Ltd and at the time was farmed by James and Robert Miller of Bonnyside. It lay beside Bonnymuir Loch and so the recreation ground became known as Loch Park. A football pitch was laid out and is still used by the local youth teams. A brick pavilion or changing room and a car park were put up in the 1970s at the end of Park Street. A walk along the north side of the loch, skirting Elf Hill, provides a link to the Antonine Wall at Rough Castle.
