The Eastern No 2 District Council purchased fields at Overton Farm near Redding Cross and put down drains before laying out football pitches. The entrance drive was from the Cross and the two brick gate piers still sport the heraldic plaques associated with the King George V Memorial Parks Scheme. It was opened in 1956 and, unusually, the field is still known by the name of the “King George V Field.”
