(Bainsford Bridge School)
In 1873 it was recorded that William C Harley was running a school in Bainsford with 53 pupils (Falkirk Herald 19 June 1873, 4). Later that year he was appointed as assistant teacher at the Falkirk Industrial School and the Bainsford school seems to have been abandoned. However, a note in January 1875 (Falkirk Herald 2 January 1875, 3) states that he was about to open a “school for all the branches of education taught in public schools” at Bainsford Bridge. He charged the same fees as did the Falkirk Burgh School Board – 2d a week for Standards 1-4. In March 1876 the school had 65 pupils but seems to have closed that summer. Miss Phoebe Harley who was a teacher at Bainsford School in 1892 may have been his daughter.
