Built in 1959 to designs by A J Smith, the Stirling County architect, the buildings were described by Gifford as a “large assemblage of flat-roofed dry-dashed boxes” (Gifford & Walker 2002, 490).

The school is built near the west end of a ridge which was occupied by Roman temporary camps in the first and second centuries AD. Archaeological excavations by Falkirk Local History Society and Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society in 2016-7 found a series of camp ditches and ovens.
