Glenside School

Walter Gardner, the schoolmaster at Bonnybridge, alienated people who were not part of the Established Church and as a consequence the people who attended the United Presbyterian Church at Dennyloanhead started a school of their own at Glenside near Skipperton around 1858.  Events were held to raise funds and Mr J Malcolm was appointed as its first schoolmaster.  He soon moved to Edinburgh and the post was vacant late in 1859.  Rev James Stevenson of Dennyloanhead Church wrote to the Moderator of Falkirk Parish Church Kirk Session suggesting that as both schools had no teacher there should only be one school in the area.  He apologised for the late discord and mooted a Committee of management composed of the Falkirk Kirk Session and some of the subscribers to the parochial school.  At a public meeting John Cuthell, who was the candidate for Glenside School, was chosen as the teacher for a united school and Glenside disappeared.
