Hallglen Primary School

With the closure of Auchengean School during the Second World War there was little choice but for the pupils to the south of Falkirk to attend Comely Park School.  In the post-war period new council houses were built extending Glen Village eastwards and private houses were added to Slamannan Road.  In 1951 the need for a school at Glen Village was raised in the County Council and it was noted that the population of the area was predicted to increase.  In 1953 the Glen Village Infant School opened as an annexe of Comely Park School.  It is not depicted on any of the contemporary maps and may have been held at the Miners’ Welfare Hall in the village.  Then, in the early 1970s there was a burst of building to the east of the village at Hallglen.  This was part of a massive project and from the beginning a school on a green-field site was projected.  Building work on the Hallglen Primary School began for Central Regional Council late in 1972 and it was officially opened in June 1976.

In 1985 the school was extended and in 2007 a nursery and gymnasium were added.  The latest addition, in 2018, is the Glenburn Early Learning and Childcare Centre.  It was designed by ADP Architecture for Falkirk Council and cost £2.4 million.  The Centre was built within the playground to the east of Hallglen Primary School and incorporated the latest design features.  The heating for the building utilises an Air Source Heat Pump feeding underfloor heating and photovoltaic cells reduce external energy consumption.  The project was overseen by the Hadden Group.
