Oakwood School

This private school was set up in 2002 as the Central Scotland school of the Oakwood Education Trust by religious groups of brethren in order to educate their own children.  A lease was taken of the 1950s Territorial Army Hall in The Bog.  The school operated successfully for several years, changing its name to Focus School – Laurieston Campus in 2012 (Willie Paterson, headmaster).  It moved to Stirling Road in Alloa in 2014.

The building was then put up for sale and the description stated that :

“The principal building on site is part single and part two storey in height of brick construction, partly rendered externally being contained under a variety of pitched and flat roofs.  To the rear of the subjects the property provides two lightweight Medway buildings, one of which has been externally clad. The subjects are fully enclosed by a range of security fencing with gravelled parking fronting the main building while a surfaced playground lies to the rear.  Internally the subjects are presently arranged in accordance with the current use as a school providing a variety of classrooms/teaching areas, a central atrium/reception, gym/hall and various office, staff and support sections.”

Early in 2016 it was decided that the education unit of Falkirk Council dedicated to delivering community-based learning to youngsters unable to be part of the traditional mainstream school environment because of their social and emotional issues would move from Weedingshall to the former Focus School in Laurieston.
