Limerigg Miners’ Welfare Institute

At Limerigg the foundation stone of a Welfare Hall was laid on 26 June 1925.  On 11 December of that same year it was officially opened by Major Mitchell of James Nimmo & Co Ltd in the presence of a large assemblage of miners.  Speeches were made by Major Mitchell and others.  Congratulatory messages were read, and in the evening a very successful dance was held.  The building was designed by Mr Miller and stood immediately to the north of the church on the west side of the main road.

The building continued to be used until that late 1970s and was demolished in around 1981.
