The Glen Ellrig Brickworks were situated at Blackbrigs, a little to the south of Ellrig Loch, on the Glen Ellrig estate. Clay was taken from open pits to the north of the works.

On the 1855 Valuation the works were owned by John Smith and they are depicted on the 1860 Ordnance Survey map. That year they were put up for let, along with the steam engine. A large part of the output appears to have been field drain tiles. The works were soon closed.

| Waugh, J. | 1977 | Slamannan Parish through the Changing Years. “Brick Making. There may have been a number of places in the Parish engaged in the manufacture of bricks, but the two best known brickworks of last century were Glenelrig and Todsbughts. The Glenelrig Brickwork was on the property of William R. Ralston of Glenelrig and was owned by John Smith, who also had a clay mine there. It is recorded in the Valuation Roll for the year 1855-56, and there is little doubt that it had been going for some years.” [p.85] |
