A lintel bearing the inscription “IW.SA.1681” was built over a window on the north side of Mosscastle Farm. The building was demolished c1990 and the stone was placed in a new wall.
In 1740 George Waddell is recorded as having previously sold that part of Rashiehill called Mosscastle to James Wood (Reid Notes). A James Wood appears at Jaw in 1688 and this is probably the same person.
