Falkirk High School was originally opened in 1886 in Park Street. In 1890 it was recognised as a Higher Class School and received government grants as a Secondary School. Soon the accommodation proved too small and in 1898 the building at Rennie Street was opened. In 1911 the additional building at the corner of Rennie Street and Griffiths Street was provided. Further additions were made from time to time.

When Falkirk High School moved to a new building in Blinkbonny Road, the old building in Rennie Street was reconstructed and re-opened as Woodlands High School in 1964 with an extension by the Stirling County architect, A. J. Smith, 1961-63. It was a senior secondary school and replaced Redding Junior Secondary School, taking pupils from the Braes area.

In 1973 two large mobile classrooms were placed in the playground. In its turn it too was replaced in 2000 by a new secondary school on a site at some distance removed – the Braes High School in Reddingmuirhead. The buildings in Rennie Street were left empty for several years awaiting redevelopment and conversion into flats. The main block was deliberately set on fire and as a result the complex was demolished in 2001 and is now the housing of Aitchison Place.
