Braes High School

Built and designed by the Parr Partnership in 2000 for 1,000 pupils.  The site is on the south side of Newlands Road, opposite to the Polmont Young Offenders’ Institution.  The main block is parallel with the road and is three storeys high with a split-section clerestory, ribbed aluminium roof, and ship-like gables containing glazed stairways.  To its south the lower slopes are occupied by a parallel block containing the entrance, recreational facilities including a swimming pool, communal hall and dining room, and offices.  The playing fields are on the far side of the Polmont Burn.  The school replaced Woodlands High School in Falkirk.
