Soutfield House Doocot

A most unusual pigeon house consisting of a 48cm square stone column, 3.4m tall surmounted by a stone dwelling with pitched roofs presenting a pigeon hole with a rest and a gable to each face.  It and the nearby summerhouse can be dated in stylistic grounds to the period 1900-1910 and are in the Art Nouveau fashion.  John Alston married in 1903 and the couple lived at Southfield, almost doubling the size of the house and creating the eastern avenue.

The house is currently a Children’s Home and access to the site is strictly limited.
