“The Place Names of Falkirk and East Stirlingshire”
by John Reid
In December 2009 the Society published John Reid’s much anticipated book on the place names of Falkirk and East Stirlingshire which examines the origins of over 3,000 names and in so doing illuminates the history of the district from Roman times to the present day. This marvellous work of scholarship distils the researches of nearly 30 years and is in the words of Professor Donald Meek ‘an onomastic thriller’ which is ‘a scholarly, well-founded and superbly disciplined engagement with the evidence’.
The book is hard back with over 440 pages of text illustrated by around 50 line drawings and maps. It cost £11.99 from bookshops or directly from the Society. Please add £4 to cover the cost of postage.
