Mayfield on Arnothill was the home of Provost Russel who commissioned the building c1855. The lobby was lighted by a beautiful stained glass window, the work of Mr Watson, Dunfermline. A glass door still separates this from the inner lobby and has an arched light above it.
The staircase leading to the higher apartments is lighted by another stained window, by Mr Watson, of a simple but elegant design. The textured clear leaded background defuses the daylight and the geometric patterns seem to presage the art deco of Glasgow.
