It is appropriate to mention that at least one of the local iron foundries, that of the Callendar Iron Company, made cast iron sundials for the rising middle classes. Two ornate examples are depicted in its catalogue. The site of the foundry is now occupied by the cinema in the retail park in Falkirk.
