Hallhouse, Denny Sundial (N6)

In the grounds of Hallhouse, just to the west of Denny, the author recorded a modern freestanding sundial in the 1990s.  It has a classical shaft with a curving octagonal base supporting a round column with an inverted bud top.  A flat plate at the top carried a circular horizontal dial face with the inscription “TIME/ IS THE/ BEING.”  The style suggests a late 19th or early 20th century date.

It does not appear on the 1897 Ordnance Survey map but is on the 1918 (revised 1913) edition.
