The villa at 4 Major’s Place is typical of J G Callander’s larger houses with its gritty render, canted bay window and sequence of banded pilasters in synthetic stone.  Even the doorway has a direct comparison at Cleveleys, 13 Camelon Road.  It is less homely or ornate than the earlier arts and crafts villas and bungalows, but its clean lines and relatively easy maintenance were popular with the clients.
